Paper Mario: The Origami King Is $10 Off At Amazon For Black Friday

While we’ve seen quite a few doorbuster Nintendo Switch game deals for Black Friday, discounts on 2020 exclusives have been less common. Over the past day or so, however, retailers have started to offer modest deals on recent releases such as Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (this deal has sadly ended, though). And now you can also save on Paper Mario: The Origami King at Amazon. Normally $60, the charming role-playing game is down to $50 for a limited time.

As with most Amazon discounts, there’s no telling how long this deal will be available. If you’re looking to pick up The Origami King for yourself or someone on your holiday shopping list, you should grab it as soon as possible. This deal ties the lowest price we’ve seen for Paper Mario: The Origami King since it launched over the summer, and it’s been a while since we’ve spotted it on sale.

It nabbed an 8/10 in GameSpot’s Paper Mario: The Origami King review in large part due to its fun and inventive grid-based combat system. “With a newfound combat system that steals the show and offers a novel take on turn-based combat, its winking, nodding, and adventuring shine all the brighter,” critic Suriel Vazquez wrote. “Its world and characters might not be the series’ best, but it’s still able to consistently throw left turns, good gags, and smart surprises at you. Each piece of The Origami King elegantly fits into its whole, taking its irreverent flair to new heights. The Paper Mario series has recently shown that being clever and being smart are two different things, but thankfully, it’s once again managed to be both.”

This Awesome Zelda Art Book Is 50% Off At Amazon For Black Friday

If you’re a big Breath of the Wild fan who can’t wait for its upcoming sequel, Amazon has a great Black Friday deal on the wonderful official art book. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Creating a Champion is on sale for nearly 50% off, and this also happens to be the deluxe Hero’s edition.

The 424-page hardcover book includes a bounty of illustrations as well as commentary from developers about the game. In addition to close to 300 pages of concept art from Breath of the Wild, you’ll find a treasure trove of sketches from Nintendo illustrator Takumi Wada. There’s even a deep dive into the world of Hyrule as depicted in Breath of the Wild and interviews with numerous members of the development team, including producer Eiji Aonuma.

Sweetening this deal even more is the fact that it’s part of Amazon’s current buy two, get one free sale on books and movies. It’s not the only official The Legend of Zelda book you can snag as part of the sale either. You could pair Creating a Champion with:

Zelda fans should also know that Amazon currently has the Breath of the Wild spinoff prequel Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity discounted to $50, down from $60. For more deals, make sure to check out our roundup of the best Black Friday gaming deals.

Black Friday Flash Deal: Persona 4 Golden (Steam) For Its Best Price Yet

Persona 4 Golden is one of the most beloved RPGs of its era, but many fans of the series didn’t get to play it back when it was a PlayStation Vita-exclusive. Today, the Steam version of Persona 4 Golden is only $12.79 at Fanatical. However, this is a one-day-only flash deal, and less than 24 hours remain to claim it.

For comparison, Persona 4 Golden is usually priced at $20 on Steam, but it’s currently discounted to $16 in Steam’s Black Friday sale. Purchasing the game at Fanatical will get you a Steam key delivered via email, similar to other key sellers like Humble and Green Man Gaming, so it’s worth saving yourself a few extra bucks and snagging Persona 4 Golden there today.

The game earned a 9/10 in GameSpot’s Persona 4 Golden review in 2012 for its memorable characters, fantastic dialogue, and engaging mystery story. To celebrate Persona 4 Golden’s release on Steam, editor Michael Higham revisited the game this year–check out his thoughts on how Persona 4 holds up 10 years since its initial release. “It may not have been known at the time, but Japan (in July 2008) and North America (in December 2008) received what would be remembered as one of the greatest role-playing games ever made,” he wrote.

“Over the course of a decade, Persona 4 has become more than just an incredibly fun RPG with a refined battle system and quirky characters, though. A story about Japanese high school students confronting their worst fears, fighting for what’s right, and becoming the best of friends spawned a lasting legacy that has empowered the people who played it and continually inspired new games. Our love for Persona 4 has kept it alive for so long with several fighting games, two anime adaptations, an adorable (and difficult) spin-off RPG, and even a rhythm game. And after 10 years, we’re still seeing our good friends from Inaba in a new light.”

Fanatical has a ton of other great gaming deals for Black Friday, including more than 4,700 PC games on sale. Highlights include Control Ultimate Edition for $17.59 and Death Stranding for $26.39. Check out more highlights from Fanatical’s Black Friday sale below.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Players Are Making Easy Opals By Killing Dummies

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla features a dynamic world to explore, filled with all manner of danger and mystery. If you’re looking to start a fight and make some coin in the process, the Thousand Eyes merchants are happy to hand out contracts that will reward players with Opals that can be used to buy rare gear and exotic cosmetics.

Many of these contracts revolve around a simple formula of being sent to assassinate an unlucky target: one who is usually near your location. A new bug around these contracts has risen up though, and it’s allowing players to easily bank some Opals in the process. In the Ravensthorpe settlement that Eivor calls home, you’re able to grab contracts from the head of the Thousand Eyes, Reda.

The bug that players are encountering is that the nearby training dummies being marked as the guilty culprits that Eivor needs to kill, each one having committed a particular crime that needs to be punished with a lethal injection of steel to the neck.

Reddit user DontCrushMyJaw encountered an even more horrifying bug when the dummy near the tattooist Tove decided to gain sentience and wander off:

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla received a new title update this week, fixing many other bugs and broken missions that made advancement in the game’s story impossible. A new graphical option was also added to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S versions of the game, which now allows players to choose between the Performance mode that targets a 60fps frame rate while scaling the resolution to maintain it, or Visual Quality mode which targets 30fps and renders the game at a higher resolution and graphical setting.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla “brings a satisfying finish to the current saga of the franchise,” associate editor Jordan Ramée wrote in his Assassin’s Creed Valhalla review. If you’re interested in plundering England as you build a new home for your clan, you can also grab Ubisoft’s latest sandbox for $48 during Black Friday.

Firearms Expert Reacts To Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Guns

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare saw the COD franchise return to a more gritty, realistic shooter experience, which was full to the brim with contemporary weapons like the SIG MCX assault rifle, the DP-12 shotgun, and the Russian ASh 12.7 battle rifle.

In the above video, Jonathan Ferguson, a weapons expert and Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries, breaks down the weapons of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, including the Dragunov sniper rifle, the Uzi submachine gun, and silenced versions of the Colt 1911 and the Desert Eagle. Across the video, Jonathan breaks down the weapons and their in-game functionality, and compares them to their real-world counterparts.

PS5 Players Who Sell PS Plus Collection Access Could Get Banned

The PlayStation Plus Collection gives PS5 owners access to some of the biggest PS4 games as part of their standard PS Plus subscription, but you cannot claim the games via PS4. That led to a market of PS5 owners offering to sell access to these games via temporary guest logins on their console, but it appears this practice is resulting in bans.

Here’s how it works in a nutshell:

  1. PS5 owner offers to claim PS Plus Collection games for a PS4 owner.
  2. PS4 owner gives them their login details so the PS5 owner can claim the games.
  3. PS5 owner signs back out of the account after claiming games.
  4. PS4 owner changes their password.

As it turns out, Sony isn’t a big fan of players doing this. According to VGC, Hong Kong PlayStation 5 players who have sold access to the games–as well as the PS4 players who purchased them–are having their accounts banned. The bans on the accounts don’t appear to be permanent, but the PS5 consoles themselves can no longer connect to PSN. Given that online access is required for nearly everything in modern gaming, including finishing installations of disc-based games, in many cases, this essentially renders the PS5 systems useless.

Still, if you have a PS4 and a PS5, there shouldn’t really be anything stopping you from downloading the PS Plus Collection games across both systems. Several of the games were also offered as freebies through PS Plus in past months, though there are a number of titles that were made free for the first time on November 12.

If you’re still in the market for a PS5, you can check out our PS5 order guide. The system is currently very difficult to find, but listings do pop up sporadically. You can also find great PlayStation Plus membership deals so you can access those games.
